In regards to the government legislation concerning the protection of personal information, Wello has and will continue to function under the Health Information Act. In addition to this, information policies not covered under the Health Act will be covered under Canada’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act or Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act.

Wello acknowledges that all personal information is confidential, and maintains its records in a secure environment. The protection of personal health information against unauthorized use, disclosure and or unauthorized access is maintained at the highest level.

Access to information is limited to a “need to know basis” by staff that require the information to perform their assigned duties. Only the least amount of health information necessary to carry out the intended purpose is collected used and disclosed, maintaining the highest level of anonymity possible for the intended purpose.

Adequate technological measures are in place to protect personal information. Personal information is retained under the guidelines of The College of Physician and Surgeons of Alberta. Personal information will only be used for the purpose for which it was retrieved. The expressed wishes of the individual, who is the subject of the information, and other relevant factors, are taken into consideration when determining how much health information to disclose.

Individuals have a legal right to see or obtain copies of their personal health information without being challenged, except in those cases where such knowledge could cause personal harm. Personal information on medical file at Wello is the property of Wello.

This information is collected under the authority of Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and the Health Information Act (HIA). The above information is collected to ensure comprehensive medical treatment and education can be provided. The personal health information you provide to Wello is collected, used and disclosed in accordance with the provisions of the Health Information Act (HIA), and is used to provide diagnostic, treatment and care service to you. Wello utilizes Secure Health Exchange, an online system that allows secure, encrypted messaging between our health professionals and clients.

All online credit card information is encrypted. Wello’s online payment platform is a certified system recognized for the most stringent level of certification available in the payments industry.

Wello will not sell your personal information for any purpose whatsoever.

User accounts:

Clients 18 years of age and older may create a Wello User Account. You can request Wello health care services for yourself and any registered dependents you have added to your User Account.

Each client is required to have a separate “profile” for each registered dependent, including the dependent’s name and other personal information.

For your safety and privacy, it is your responsibility to maintain the security of your user account username and password at all times.

Wello collection of personal information

Personal and/or registered dependents information is collected to ensure that comprehensive medical treatment, health services, and education can be provided. As a client of Wello, we may request demographic, health, medical, contact, insurance and payment information. All information is collected with your consent.

If you are an employee or an employer who retains Wello to provide you with health services, we may collect personal information as well as information about your job. Wello may share aggregated statistics with your employer, however, your personal information cannot be identified from these aggregate statistics. We are committed to the privacy of your information and have safeguards in place to ensure anonymity and privacy.

Wello use of personal information

Information collected by Wello is used to assist in the delivery of our client care, programs and services. In addition, this information is also used to communicate with you regarding other Wello products, services, events, medical updates and educational information. Wello may use the information collected to create anonymous statistics to aid service and business analysis. These statistics are created blind and do not contain personally identifying information.

Wello disclosure of personal information

Within Wello, access to information is strictly controlled. Personal and personal health information is disclosed on a need to know basis to staff that require the information to perform their assigned duties to ensure high quality care. Only the least amount of health information necessary to carry out the intended purpose is collected, used and disclosed.

With your written consent, we will forward information to your family physician or another third party service provider to ensure appropriate ongoing monitoring and long-term follow up. Your information will not be forwarded without your consent.
